Bill:

Have you ever wondered how to make gifts affect? I know in the past I've been a bit lazy with gifts and I think that gifts can be a fantastic marketing tool. It can be a fantastic retention tool. It can be a fantastic employee retention tool. There are a lot of ways to use gifts and I got a cool gift over the holidays from one of my clients and it says this is something he sent to his clients. And it came with a card, a nice card with a sunrise on it. It said wishing you a bright and prosperous new year. We are grateful for all the successful projects and meaningful relationships we've built this year. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your team. It's got a card. It had these cool sunglasses in it with their logo on it. It also had a solid mini light mini flashlight. I wish I'd had this. I was doing some electrical work over the holidays. This would have been great down in some dark spaces where I was. It's a good flashlight. It's got an emergency beacon on it, the whole deal. It's nice. It's solid, it's rechargeable. It's a nice gift.

Bill:

I'm gonna keep this gift around. I'm gonna use this gift. I'm gonna use it in my. I'll use it in my promotions. I'll use it in my examples of great gifts to give. So it got me thinking about other gifts for employees. I've got it. One client who does employee gifts every year around Christmas. He's giving them things like Yeti coolers, like knives, like chainsaws, like a fire pits. He's always looking for something creative to do for his employees as a thank you gift for a great year. It also helps keep them around. In fact, they ask about it pretty much every year. You know what's it looking like. So gifts can be used for employee retention, guests can also be used for marketing and they can also be used for client retention.

Bill:

This is one I got from another one of my clients. It's a mug and it's got a picture of a guy in a suit with a briefcase jumping and it says the grass is always greener with a business coach. Now, that could be used as a print. Now, what's the advantage of a mug? Well, I'm not going to throw this away. So there's two good things about any gifts you give. One are people talking about it. I'm talking about the flashlight and the sunglasses. Number two I'm not going to throw away a mug. Who's going to throw away a mug? I'm going to have it on my desk or I'm going to have it on a shelf somewhere, but I'm going to remember who gave it to me, why they gave it to me and what it's about. So that's a great gift.

Bill:

I got this prospecting thing and it's a puzzle and it says we can help solve this puzzle in clients change. It came from a bank and it's a wooden puzzle and it's got a $10 bill inside the puzzle. You can see the $10 bill, but you can't get it out until you work the puzzle. So I worked on this thing for a number of minutes before I finally figured out how to get it, and it's a pretty simple puzzle. Once you get it, you get it. I'm not going to share how to get out of the puzzle with you. You're going to have to figure that out on your own. In case you get one or you want to give this as a gift, but this is a gift that I'm talking about, that I've kept in that, so it's been a good gift. I've always reminded of this bank when I look at this puzzle. Now, maybe it's a thank you gift, maybe it's something else you have.

Bill:

Like, I played a golf course in Scotland it's called Crayol and they gave me a box and it said on the first tee and it said 2023 emergency plies from the golf course. It had a piece of candy in it which I ate. It also had a little plastic, I guess, bottle I don't know what you'd call this thing a bag full of local scotch. And then it had some teas in it and I think it also had a green fixer in it. So it was basically a nice. They didn't have to do that. I would have enjoyed playing the golf course anyway. But they gave us those nice emergency supplies. But it was very creative. I liked it from the get go. I'm sitting here talking about it so you know it works.

Bill:

So here's the question for you what gifts should you be given to your prospects, what gifts should you be given to your clients, what gifts should you be giving to your employees, and how can you better use gifting as a marketing or retention tool in 2024? I hope this gives you some food for thought. Let me know your ideas or cool gifts that you've gotten. I would love to hear them. Have a fantastic week. I'm looking forward to a massive 2024.
